Why does my ps5 not show on my tv/monitor ?

PS5 no display

If your PlayStation 5 (PS5) isn’t showing on your TV, you may be facing one of several common issues. Here’s a breakdown of potential problems and solutions to help you get your system back on display.

1. TV or Monitor is Off or Does Not Work

  • First, ensure your TV or monitor is powered on and functioning properly. Check that the screen is not black or displaying any error messages. If you have another TV available, try connecting your PS5 to it to determine if the problem lies with the original display.

2. PS5 HDMI Port

  • Inspect the HDMI port on your PS5. Ensure the port is not damaged and the HDMI cable is firmly connected. You may want to try a different HDMI port on the TV to see if that resolves the issue.

3. Faulty HDMI Cable Connection

  • A faulty HDMI cable can cause a signal issue, resulting in your PS5 not being recognized by the TV. Check your HDMI cable for any visible damage, and consider using a new HDMI cord if you suspect it might be the source of the problem.

4. Rest Mode Glitch

  • Sometimes, the PS5 may experience a glitch after being in rest mode. Try restarting your console by unplugging it for a few seconds and then plugging it back in. This simple restart can often fix display issues and help your PS5 connect to the TV again.

5. TV or Monitor Cannot Handle PS5's Video Settings

  • If your PS5 is set to a video output resolution that your TV cannot support, it may not show anything on the screen. To remedy this, turn on your PS5 in Safe Mode by holding down the power button until you hear a second beep. From there, select “Change Video Output” to adjust the settings to something compatible with your TV.

6. PS5 HDMI Encoder Chip Failure

  • If none of the above solutions work, there may be a hardware-level issue with the PS5’s HDMI encoder chip. This chip is responsible for processing and transmitting the video signal from the console to your TV. If it’s damaged or malfunctioning, your PS5 may power on but fail to display any image—even with a good cable and TV.

Common signs of a faulty HDMI encoder include:

  • No signal even after switching TVs and cables

  • PS5 light turns on, but screen remains black

  • No access to Safe Mode screen
